Q.11 - The ratio between the number of boys and girls in a school is
4:5. If the number of boys are increased by 30% and the number of
girls increased by 40 %, then what will the new ratio of boys and girls

Let the number of boys and girls in the school be 4x and 5x respectively.

Increased number of boys : 30%

Increased number of girls: 40%

Thus, The increased number of boys: [ 130% of 4x ] and increased number of girls: [ 140% of 5x ]

Increased number of boys:

=> 130/100 × 4x

=> 520x/100

=> 260x/50

=> 26x/5

Increased number of girls:

=> 140/100 × 5x

=> 700x/100

=> 350x/50

=> 35x/5

Thus, The required ratio is [26x/5] : [ 35x/5]

= 26 : 35

Therefore: the new ratio of boys and girls in the school is 26 : 35.
