Let the side of an square be x

so,

the measurement of side after increasing 16%

= x +(16 %× x)

= x +[(16/100 )× x]

= x +( 4x / 25)

= (25x + 4x)/25= 29x/25

so,

the area when the side of the square be x =

and

the area when side increased 16%= (29x/25)²

= 841x²/625

so, the change in area=( 841x²/625) -

=( 841x²-625x²)/625

= 216x²/625

%of change in area

= [ (216 /625)÷841x²/625 ]×100
