Given: Correct reaction is: 2A(g) -----------> 3B(g) + 2C(g)

           Time (min)                                   -      0        100       200

           Partial pressure of x (mm Hg)   -      800   400      200

To find: Order of reaction and rate of reaction.

Solution:

  • Now as we have given the equation as 2A(g) -----------> 3B(g) + 2C(g)
  • So to find the order, we will use time.
  • When partial pressure is getting lowered from 800 to 400, it takes 100 minutes, when again getting lowerd from 400 to 200, time taken is 200-100 = 100 minutes.
  • So half life here is constant that is 50%.
  • Therefore reaction is first order reaction.

  • Now since the reaction is first order, so :

              k = 0.693 / t(1/2)

              k = 0.693 / 100

              k = 6.93 x 10^-3 min.

Answer:

            Therefore reaction is first order reaction and rate of reaction is 6.93 x 10^-3 min.
