Q 2)When a small cylinder is held just tight between the jaws of a vernier,
the reading on the main scale is 5.3 cm and the gth division of the vernier
coincides with the main scale division. The main scale is graduated in mm
and 10 divisions of vernier coincide with 9 main scale divisions. Find the
length of the cylinder.

Given that,

The reading on the main scale is 5.3 cm.

Vernier division = 4th

We know that,

zero error = 0.05 cm

We need to calculate the observed reading of cylinder diameter

Using formula for cylinder diameter

d= main\ scale+vernier\ division\times least\ count

Put the value into the formula

d=5.3+4\times(0.01)

d=5.34\ cm

We need to calculate the length of the cylinder

Using formula for actual thickness

t=d-zero\ error

Put the value into the formula

t=5.34-0.05

t=5.29\ cm

Hence, The length of the cylinder is 5.29 cm.
