Q.26 If the engine of a car provides an acceleration of 2 m/s to start it from rest then assuming
the mass to be roughly 1000 kg. Calculate the
(1) force provided by the engine, (in) velocity after 10 s
(iii) and time after which the car comes to rest, if the engine is turned off after 15 s (Take
frictional force = 15 N)

Answer:

(i)a=2m/s^2;m=1000kg

a)force provided by the engine is

F=ma=1000×2=2000N

(b)After t=10s,the velocity will be

v=u+at =0+2×10=20m/s

Hence,the momentum will be

P10=mv=1000×20=20000kg m/s.

c)Engine is turned of after 15seconds.

so,the speed with the train would be moving is

v=0+at=2×15=30m/s

This is the frictional force,f=15N

Hence,the decleration provided is

a=15/1000=0.015m/s^2

Therefore,the time taken to stop the car is

t=v-u/t=0-30/-0.015=2000s=33.33mins

(ii)The force required to accelerated the motion of a body is unbalanced force.This is in accordance with Newton's first law of motion.

^_^thanks!
