The types of sentences are given as follows-

a) Compound sentence

b) Simple sentence

c) Complex sentence

d) Simple sentence

e) Compound sentence

The types of sentences are identified by looking at the conjunction used in the sentence.

A simple sentence does not contain any conjunction in the statement.

A compound sentence has two independent clauses connected using a subordinator. However, a complex sentence contains two clauses dependent on each other connected with a sub-ordinator.

  • In the first sentence, a) the co-ordinator 'and' is used and the clauses are not dependent on each other, hence it is a compound sentence.
  • In the sentences b) and d) there's no conjunction so it is simple in nature.
  • The third sentence has the sub-ordinator 'because' in it. The clause my father is happy depends on the reason his kid did well in exams. Hence, it is a complex sentence.
  • In the last sentence, both the clauses are independent in nature and don't need the other clause to resonate. So it will be a compound sentence.
