Explanation:

Mark Twain said,” History doesn’t repeat itself , but it does rhyme.” Although history doesn’t repeat itself in the sense that exactly the same things happen over and over again, it does have a recurring theme.

Indeed, those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. One has to be critical if one hopes to avoid repeating the mistakes in the past.

If we turn the pages of history we would come across many incidents that tunes with the idea. Mistakes that occurred in the history have found its way into the future. This led to the rise of many revolutions that have resulted in mass killings, destruction of property and massacred the food chain. A good example would be Napoleon’s folly of trying to invade Russia which ultimately ended his campaign . It was repeated by Hitler over 100 years later. While the events are not the same, they do seem to ring similarly.

If we see this idea in a different perspective, we would say that this idea also works well in case of human relationships. Couples that don’t learn from fights eventually break up. They don’t consider the blunders that they had made earlier and they start emotionally distancing themselves. They get engrossed in negative thoughts without considering the root cause for such altercation. They’re rewriting the past and convincing themselves that their relationships must have been doomed from the start.

Learning from history not only makes us prepared and ready for future but also prevents us from repeating the mistakes that we had once committed in the past. Our goal in life is to be better today than yesterday and such improvement will only come if we learn from our past.

Cheers !
