FIND

How many months will it take so population of males drop below 21,100.

SOLUTION

  • Rate of change of male population is -35%xp ( negative because population decreases).
  • At the beginning there are 50,000 males in the city. i.e.  population (p) = 50,000.
  • After a month the number of males left can be determined by subtracting 35% of p from the total p. i.e. 50,000-17500=32500.
  • After 2nd month 35% males decrease from remaining population of previous month i.e. 32500 hence , new population will be 32500-11375=21125.
  • Clearly after 2nd month the population of males will drop below 21,100.

After Two months the number of males in that city will drop below 21,100.
