 Given\: pair \: of \: equations :

 x + y = 5 \: ---(1)\: and

 2x - 3y = 4\: ---(2)

 Given \: x = a \: y = b \: is \: a \: solution

 put \: these \: values\: in \: above \: equations

 we \:get

 a + b = 5

 \implies b = 5 - a \: ---(3)

 2a - 3b = 4 \: ---(4)

 \implies 2a - 3(5-a) = 4

 \implies 2a - 15 + 3a = 4

 \implies 5a = 4 + 15

 \implies a = \frac{19}{5}

 Put \: the \: value \: of \: 'a' \: in \: equation \:(3),

 we \:get

 b = 5 - \frac{19}{5}

 \implies b = \frac{25-19}{5}

 \implies b = \frac{6}{5}

Therefore.,

 \green { a = \frac{19}{5} \:and \: b = \frac{6}{5} }
