The difference is that gravity (the field) is there in absence of a test mass, the gravitational force "exists" only if there is a test mass at the point. From a general-relativistic point of view, "gravity" is the space-time curvature induced by an energy-mass distribution, the "gravitational force" then does not exist, since a test mass will follow a geodetic in the curved space-time.
