Ans.
Should the TV set be thrown away?
Are you serious? Throw the TV set away? And then, what do we do? Sit at home studying all day or getting on each other's nerves or simply twiddling our thumbs? What will father do when he gets home after a hard day's work? He just cannot do without the news or the sports channels. We, the children, need to see our cartoon programmes or favourite TV programmes at least for some time during the day. After hours of studying. they are the only means of entertainment and information we have. Poor mother, she slogs away all day in the kitchen. The only time she gets to relax is when she is watching her favourite TV serial in the evenings. Also, mother enjoys watching 'cooking' shows on the TV, so that she can learn how to make new choice dishes for us.
How often can we go to the malls or cinema multiplexes? Where are the parks or open spaces for us to spend leisure time or play matches? Besides, watching a movie or a serial on the TV at home with the whole family is more enjoyable. I agree that the TV should not be the only source of entertainment, but what other choices do we have?
The TV is the only media which informs us about important events taking place thousands of miles away, such as the election results in America or the Olympic Games live. Everyone in our house is a fan of cricket. How will we get to watch nail-biting matches without the TV? Such events shown on the TV are more vivid than simply reading about them in newspapers and journals!
Throw the TV set away? The very idea is absurd.
