Q.6) Give reason for the following statement –
a. Tendon and ligaments are connective tissue.
b. In night time stomata are close.
c. Mitochondria is power House of cell.
d. Water and mineral uptake by plants.
e. Bacteria are classified into prokaryotes.
Answers
Answer:
a). A tendon serves to move the bone or structure. A ligament is a fibrous connective tissue which attaches bone to bone, and usually serves to hold structures together and keep them stable.
b). In general, stomata open by day and close at night. During the day, photosynthesis requires that the leaf mesophyll be exposed to the air to get CO2. At night, the stomata close to avoid losing water when photosynthesis is not occurring
c). Mitochondria are tiny organelles inside cells that are involved in releasing energy from food. This process is known as cellular respiration. It is for this reason that mitochondria are often referred to as the powerhouses of the cell.
d). Water and mineral salts first enter through the cell wall and cell membrane of the root hair cell by osmosis. Root hair cells are outgrowths at the tips of plants' roots (Figure 5.27). They function solely to take up water and mineral salts. ... The vacuoles have salts, which speed up water absorption from soil water.
e). The prokaryotic organisms that were formerly known as bacteria were then divided into two of these domains, Bacteria and Archaea. Bacteria and Archaea are superficially similar; for example, they do not have intracellular organelles, and they have circular DNA.
