4. Explain any four features of Grid Systems.
5. Write short notes on:
a. Four figure grid reference
b. Six figure grid referenc
Answers
Answer:
1 . Topography concerns the shape and character of the Earth's surface, and maps were among the first artifacts to record these observations.
2. a line on a map joining points of equal height above or below sea level is known as contour line.
3. The grid numbers on the east-west (horizontal) axis are called Eastings, and the grid numbers on the north-south (vertical) axis are called Northings. Numerical grid references consist of an even number of digits. Eastings are written before Northings.
4. Resource coordination: resources in a grid must be coordinated in order to provide aggregated computing capabilities. – Transparent access: a grid should be seen as a single virtual computer. – Dependable access: a grid must assure the delivery of services under es- tablished Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.
5. a.. An easy way to remember this is that to get the first number, you go along the corridor (horizontal, x axis, eastings) and then up the stairs (vertical, y axis, northings). For example, the number 2 in the diagram below is square 19 across and square 45 up and therefore, the four-figure grid reference is '1945'.
b. In six-figure grid reference, six figures or six digits are found. In all type of maps, we find easting as a horizontal line and northings as a vertical line which crosses each other and creates a square. By taking the number of easting and northing grids we can locate things on the map.
