Ingestion :

  • The process of intake of food by mouth with the help of pseudopodia or villi ie. finger like projections used for engulfing the food.

  • Ingestion in Amoeba takes place with the help of pseudopodia ( finger like extensions ) .

  • It engulfs the food when it comes in contact with its cell surface.

Additional information :

  • Now after this process, pseudopodia fuses over the food particle to form a food vacuole.

  • Inside the food vacuole, complex food breaks into small soluble molecules and gets readily absorbed by the cytoplasm, ie. absorption.

  • The undigested food material is removedby the cell membrane, which ruptures suddenly at any place and eliminates out the undigested food.
