Q: Given below are three media with refr index values.
A - 1.21
B - 2.45
C - 1.36
a) in which medium light travels the fastest nd slowest?
b) In which medium wavelength is highest n lowest?
c) In which medium frequency is highest n lowest?
d) If ray of light goes from B to C, where will it deviate?

Answer:

a) As,

Refractive index(μ) = c/v

Where c=Speed if light in vacuum

v=Speed if light in medium

As c is contant, we can say that

∴ μ∝1/v

Light travels fastest in medium = A

Light travels slowest in medium = B

b) As v=fλ

and frequency(f) constant as source is same.

∴ v∝λ

Highest wavelength = A

Lowest wavelength = B

c) As medium is changing and there is no change in source.

∴Frequency(f) will remain same in all medium.

d) As light travels from denser medium to rarer medium then it will deviate away from the normal.
