1) catenation property :- the property of any element to link atoms of the element to form long chain .
this property occur only that element which have high bond dissociation energy and polyvalency .carbon have both property exist so, carbon have catenation property .which reason carbon form a large number of compound .

2) tetravalence of carbon or covalency of carbon :-carbon in exited state form tetravalency due to this generally carbon form covalent bond by any element . this reason is also helpful to form maximum compound .
