Option (a), SO2 is the correct Answer. Acid rain is a mix of sulphuric acid and nitric acid, and the proportion of the two subjects to varying depending on the presence of relative quantities of SO2 and NO2 emission in the atmosphere.

Approximately, about  60-70 % of the acidity is caused by sulphuric acid while 30-40 % caused by nitric acid. Normal rain has a pH < 5.7 is termed as acid rain and is highly harmful to the biosphere of the Earth.

Now there are two kinds of acidic depositions:

Dry Depositions: When the gases like  NO2, SO2, released naturally or by industries and deposited on the Earth.

Wet Depositions: This is generally called acid rains. It occurs when rainwater or snow deposit as acidic gases in form of acids.
