Question :

The house costs 24% more today then when it was built. If the cost of the house today is $815 920, find the cost of the house when it was built.

To find :

→ The cost of the house when it was built

Given Data :

  • New cost of the house is $ 815920

  • Cost of the house is 24 % more than the original price

Solution :

  • Let the original cost of the house be $ x

{ \sf \small Since  \: the \:  cost  \: is  \: increased  \: by  \: 24} \% \: \sf \small{ we \: get}

 \sf \small New  \: Price  \rarr (1 + \frac{24}{100} ) \: of \: original \: price

{ \sf \small815920  \rarr \frac{124}{100}  }\times x

Transposing 124/100 to L.HS. of the equation we get :

815920 \times  \frac{100}{124}  \rarr x

 x = \sf  658000

  • So the original price of the house is $ 658000
