The three basic elements for establishing a successful Internet connection are:


i)  Modem – This is needed to convert data from the sending computer into a form that is transferrable over the selected carrier and to revert it back to the original form at the receiving computer.


ii) Network Card – The computer on which you are trying to establish an Internet connection must include a network card with a network cable connecting capability.


iii) Router – This is a requirement only if the Internet connection must be established with more than one computer.
