there is no proof that what is the source of dream but if we don't dream we'll die

dream is the virtual reality of our mind where sub conscious mind of ours shows our brain what we want .

if sub conscious mind does not work then we can't sleep that ultimately distorted our brain structure reduce immunity and learning capability

And after that you just can't explain what happening on surrounding and lead to mental disorder

We dream because when sometimes air subconscious mind is inactive it generates some waves which reach to our mind thus making us dream!
