Question

 \bold \purple{calculate  \: the \:  oxidation  \: of  \: underline \:  atoms. 1)H  _{2}  {\underline \pink{S}}O _{4}}

To find

oxidation number of sulphur...

Solution

let the number of Sulphur Be X

oxidation number of hydrogen= +1 ( non metals)

= -1 (metals)

oxidation number of oxygen= -2 (generally )

H  _{2}  {\underline \pink{S}}O _{4}  \\  \to 1 \times 2 + x + ( - 2) \times 4 = 0 \\  \\  \to \: x - 6 = 0 \\  \\  \to  \bold \orange{\: x = 6}

therefore the oxidation number of Sulphur is +6

MoRE information!!

✏️oxidation number is the charge present on atom in its anion state or expected to have in its covalent state.

✏️ hydrogen shows oxidation number + 1 with nonmetals and -1 with metals.

✏️oxygen shows oxidation number -2 generally... -1 in peroxide.... - 1/2 in superoxide
