Hey there !

Magnesium burns in air to form magnesium oxide.

Here Magnesium and Oxygen are reactants.

The product is ---> Magnesium Oxide.

Magnesium --> Mg
Oxygen --> O₂

Mg + O₂ ---> MgO ----> unbalanced equation.

Now lets balance it !

Oxygen --->
LHS = 2 atoms of Oxygen
RHS = 1 atom of Oxygen

To make the RHS balanced , we multiply MgO , with 2

Thus MgO becomes ==> 2MgO
Mg + O₂ ---> 2MgO

Now,
Magnesium
LHS = 1 atom of Magnesium
RHS = 2 atoms of Magnesium

Hence ,
Multiply Mg with 2 [ LHS ]

Now the equation is fully balanced :-

2Mg + O₂ ---> 2MgO ====> Balanced equation
