Given:

The list price of an article is Rs 20,000. The shopkeeper gives a discount of 15% on the listed price. The tax rate for it is 28%. The total amount a customer has to pay to purchase the article is?

To find:

The total amount a customer has to pay to purchase the article is?

Solution:

Finding the S.P. after giving discount:

The list price of the article = Rs. 20,000

The rate of discount = 15%

Therefore,

The S.P. after giving discount is,

= M.P. - Discount

= M.P. - [\frac{Discount}{100}\times M.P. ]

= 20000 - [\frac{15}{100}\times 20000 ]

= 20000 - 3000

= 17000

Finding the S.P. after adding the tax:

The rate of the tax = 28%

The discounted price of the article = Rs. 17000

∴ The amount of tax = \frac{28}{100} \times 17000 = 4760

Now,

The final S.P. of the article for the customer is,

= [Price after discount] + [Tax amount]

= Rs. 17000 + Rs. 4760

= Rs. 21760

Thus, the total amount a customer has to pay to purchase the article is → Rs. 21760.
