Q10. Read the passage carefully and answer questions 10(a)-10(d).
In the game of football, sometimes while looking at the football and trying to
kick it with a greater force, we collide with another player. In such an eventu ality, both
the players feel hurt because each applies a force on the other. In other words, there is a
pair of forces and not just one force. The two opposing forces are also known as action
and reaction forces. Newton's third law of motion correlates the action and reaction
forces. It states the action and reaction forces are always equal in magn ude but
opposite in direction.
(a) State Newton's third law of motion.
Do action-reaction forces act simultaneously or act one after the other?
(c) Action and reaction forces, although equal and opposite, never cancel each other.
Why?
(d) Why does a swimmer move water backwards with his arms?

Explanation:

a.Newton's third law of motion correlates the action and reaction

forces.

c. Action and reaction forces are equal and opposite, but they are not balanced forces because they act on different objects so they don't cancel out

d. The swimmer will drag their hand backwards to the water to apply a force to it, this causes some of the water to accelerate backwards, but it also causes an equal and opposite force on you
