mid point formula( x1+x2/2),(y1+y2/2)

(-2+(-6)÷2),(8+(-4)÷2)

(-2-6÷2),(4÷2)

-8÷2,2

(-4,2)

the mid point of the line segment is (-4,2)

Answer :–

  • x = –4
  • y = 2

So, the midpoints of A and B is:

  • (–4, 2)

Given :–

  • A = (-2, 8)
  • B = (-6, -4)

To Find :–

  • The mid-point.

Mid-point Formula :–

  •  (\frac{x_{1} + x_{2}{2}}), (\frac{y_{1} + y_{2}{2}})

Solution :–

Let,

  • (x₁, y₁) = (-2, 8)
  • (x₂, y₂) = (-6, -4)

So,

For finding the mid-point of the line segment which is joining the points A and B.

So,

 (\frac{x_{1} + x_{2}}{2}), (\frac{y_{1} + y_{2}}{2})

 x = \frac{(-2 + (-6))}{2}, y = \frac{(8 + (-4))}{2}

 x = \frac{(-2 - 6)}{2}, y = \frac{(8 - 4)}{2}

 x = \frac{\cancel{-8}}{\cancel{2}}, y = \frac{\cancel{4}}{\cancel{2}}

  1. x = –4
  2. y = 2

Hence,

The mid-point of A(–2, 8) and B(–6, –4) is (–4, 2).
