Q13. Write briefly about structure and function of mitochondria and chloroplast.

Structure of Mitochondria :
Mitochondria are rod shaped organelles and it have two membranes..Outer memebrane is thin and porous and inner membrane is folded and this folding is called cristae to increase the surface area for energy production..Cristae is embedded with oxysomes or F0-F1 particles.
Mitochindria is also known as Powerhouse of cell..
Function:
It contains ATP which help in energy production so it is called powerhouse of cell...

Chloroplast:
One type of Plastid.Present only in plant cell..It is green colour plastid..
Structure:
It is double layer membrane bound oragnelle..Discivered by A.V.Leuwehoek and name was given by Schimper..
Grana: It constitute of lamellar system.It is formed by group of Thylakoids..
Function:Take part in light reaction of Photosynthesis because it contains green pigment...
Stroma:It is granual Transparent substance also called as Matrix..
Function:Dark reaction of photosynthesis ..
