i) (x)^2 +(x+7)^2 =13^2
ii)x^2 + x^2+ 49+ 14x=169
2x^2+14x=120
x^2+7x=60
x^2+7x-60=0
x^2+12x-5x-60=0
x(x+12)-5(x+12)=0
(x+12)(x-5)=0
thus, x+12=0 ⇒x=-12
or x-5=0 ⇒ x=5

since sides of triangle cant be negative (-12) is rejected and 5 is correct answer

hope this helps!!
