Tanjavur and Uraiyur were the capital cities of the great Cholas and there are a lot of temples in and around. The most famous temple in Tanjavur, is the big temple built by Raja RajaChola, the great king. Uraiyur also has many old temples. My neighbourhood also has some temples which were built recently. The following are the similarities and differences between them.
Similarities:
- Both the temples in Tanjavur and my neighbourhood are shiva temples and pradhosha pooja is celebrated in both the temples.
- Both temples have good ambiance to pray and sit and meditate.
Differences:
- Tanjavur temple is very big in size, my neighbourhood temple is small.
- There are many historical inscriptions in Tanjavur temple there are no inscriptions in my neighbourhood temple.

The temples which are built in Thanjavur and Uraiyur depict how the artists sculpted each and every rock into a beautiful and elongated sculpture. The temples in these 2 places are built during the period when the kings were ruling the country. The kings built the temple with the funds raised by the people and many were built to show their divinity to God. In these temples many religious rituals are done even today where a large number of people will also be a part of it
In the present day there are not much similarities compared to that of the older time temples.
