On January 22, 1905, a group of workers led by the radical priest Georgy Apollonovi Have Gapon marched to the czar's Winter Palace in St. Petersburg to make their demands. Imperial forces opened fire on the demonstrators, killing and wounding hundreds.This demonstration of factory workers was brutally put down by Russian soldiers. Up to 200 people were killed by rifle fire and Cossack charges. This event became known as B Sunday and is seen as one of the key causes of the 1905 Revolution.
