Jute is called golden fibre for the following reasons -

  • The visual appearance of the jute is shiny and golden brown in colour.
  • The jute has a very high cash value in the consumer market, just like the gold.
  • Both the appearance and value of jute is similar to actual gold. That's why, it's known as the golden fibre.

Uses of jute :

  1. Jute fibre is hugely used for making strong and durable ropes.
  2. Sacks, bags and many other things are made from the jute fibre.

Jute is loosing it's market for the following reasons -

  1. The arrival of cheaper and more durable synthetic fibres.
  2. The jute production needs a complete agricultural session and that's why it somehow lacks to fulfil the high market demand in time.
  3. Jute is a biodegradable substance which is both a good and a bad thing. The unwanted decomposition of jute material is one reason for the decreasing demand of jute.
