Given :  A market research group conducted a survey of 60 consumers  reported that

32 consumers like product A,

21 consumers like product B and

11 consumers like both the products A and B,

To find :  number of consumers who like neither product A nor product B

(a) 42 (b) 20 (c)18 (d)28

Solution:

Total = 60

A =  32

B = 21

A ∩ B = 11

None = A' ∩ B'  =  ?

A U B= A + B  - A ∩ B

=>  A U B= 32 + 21  - 11

=>  A U B=  42

( A U B)' = Total -   A U B

=>   ( A U B)' =  60 - 42  = 18

number of consumers who like neither product A nor product B

A' ∩ B'  =  ( A U B)' = 18

or

Total = A + B -  A ∩ B   + None

=> 60 = 32 + 21 - 11 + None

=> None  = 18

18 consumers  like neither product A nor product B
