(The second sub question)

Angle of elevation = 60°

Distance between root and top touching the ground = 40 dm = BC

Part of the tree still standing = AB

Broken part of the tree = AC

Now,

Height at which it broke (from the bottom) ;

tan 60° = AB/BC

√3 = AB/40

∴ AB = 40√3 = height at which it broke or the part of the tree still standing upright

For height of the tree,

sin 60° = AB/AC

√3/2 = (40√3)/AC

∴ AC = ((40√3)×2)/ √3

AC = 40 × 2 = 80 dm

∴ Total height of the tree = (40√3 + 80) dm
