Q3. A map of a city is drawn to a scale of 1 : 60000

a) Calculate the actual distance in kilometres, represented by 14 cm on the map.
b) Two schools are 2.7 km apart. Calculate , in centimetres, their distance on the map.

scale is 1:60000

distance in km=14×60000/100000=840000/100000=8.4km

so, 14cm=8.4km

for 2.7km

distance on map=14×2.7/8.4=4.5cm
