Answer :-

  • Value of x and y are - 1 and 3 respectively.

Given :-

  • Two equations 2x + 3y = 7 and x + 3y = 8

To Find :-

  • Value of x and y.

Solution :-

Here

  • 2x + 3y = 7 ...i)
  • x + 3y = 8 ...ii)

Subtract eq ii) from i)

Now

⇒ 2x + 3y - (x + 3y) = 7 - 8

⇒ 2x + 3y - x - 3y = 7 - 8

⇒ 2x - x = 7 - 8

⇒ x = 7 - 8

⇒ x = - 1

Put the value of x in eq ii)

⇒ x + 3y = 8

⇒ - 1 + 3y = 8

⇒ 3y = 8 + 1

⇒ 3y = 9

⇒ y = 9/3

⇒ y = 3

Hence, the value of x and y are - 1 and 3 respectively.
