Q3. Amna is an astronaut. She measured her body mass using a bathroom scale. See the reading on the scale and note it down using the correct units. Body mass:57.9 Unit: kg What is Amna’s weight on Earth? (Hint: Earth’s gravity pulls on each kg with a force of 10N) __________________________________________________________________________ A second astronaut has a weight of 600N on Earth. What would be his body mass on Earth?

Given -

First case - Body mass - 57.9 kg

Gravitational pull - 10 N

Second case - Weight - 600 N

Find -

First case - Weight on Earth

Second case - Body mass on Earth.

Solution - For both the conditions, formula used will be same. Formula will be - W = mg.

In this formula, w is weight on earth, m is body mass and g is acceleration due to gravity.

Since Force of gravitational pull is acceleration due to gravity, hence, g = 10 N/kg = 10 m/s².

First case -

W = 57.9*10

W = 579 N.

Second case -

m = 600/10

m = 60 kg.

Hence, weight on earth is 579 N while second astronaut's body mass is 60 Kg.
