Q3. Distinguish between the following:
a. Cuscuta and mistletoe.
c. Stomata and guard cell.
d. Xylem and phloem.
e. Chlorophyll and chloroplast.
Answers
Answer:
A. Mistletoe and cuscuta are both parasitic plants deriving much of their nutrients from host trees. Cuscuta's colors range from red to orange and variations there of. Mistletoe is green and can photosynthesize on its own if need be where as cuscuta can not.
B. The key difference between stomata and guard cells is that the stomata are pores that locate on the epidermis of leaves, stems, etc. while the guard cells are the cells that surround and regulate the opening and closing of stomata. Stomata and guard cells facilitate this job of gas exchange in plants.
C. Xylem is the complex tissue of plants, responsible for transporting water and other nutrients to the plants. Phloem is living tissue, responsible for transporting food and other organic materials.
D. Chlorophyll refers to a pigment responsible for the green colour in plants. Chloroplasts are organelles within a plant cell, acting as the site for photosynthesis. Pigment necessary for photosynthesis. Chloroplast is the region where photosynthesis occurs.
