Q3. Read the following passage carefully:
Migration in simple term, refers to movement of individuals or groups. People migration
because they search for employment - permanent or seasonal or temporary. These groups, along
with their dependents, constitute the migrants and their moving form place to place is called
migration.
The movement is generated mainly due to economic forces. But this is not always true.
Migration may be due to housing problem, health, climate, education and other miscellaneous
reasons. It is not correct to say that migration is only due to economic reasons or for job
opportunities. Migrants with specific skills go to places where there are opening especially for
them. Those who seek white collar jobs generally have to move greater distances than those who
are prepared to do more unskilled jobs. Generally, it is the agriculturists who move to manual
jobs in the cities.
The depopulation of villages is a matter of great concern. We have to find measures to counter
it. Do these agriculturists want better conditions than their present way of life or do they move to
cities for the comforts available there?

1. The depopulation of villages is a matter of great concem. What do you mean by
depopulation of villages?
2. Why is the depopulation of villages a matter of great concem?
4. Mention any two measures to counter it.
