No matter what the mass, any object close to the surface of the Earth will accelerate towards Earth at a constant rate of 9.8 m/s^2. You can actually derive this from Newtons law of gravitation.

Gravitational force between two objects = GMm/(R^2)

Force on a mass m due to Earths gravity = m*g

Equating those two you see that m cancels off. Leaving you with the expression for acceleration due to gravity,

g = GM/R^2 ~ 9.8 m/s^2
