Q4. Give reasons :-
1. The monsoon winds blow in summer from south west to North West.
2. All over the world the frequency of disasters is increasing.
3. Most of the islands of Asia are rocked by the earthquakes and Volcanic activity
Answers
1) because winds blow from high to low pressure, warm moisture-laden air moves south-westerly direction from the sea over to India in the north and North East and is deflected by the Coriolis force as the Earth spins. It is this moist air current which is popularly known as the south-west monsoon.
2) the number of (natural) disasters occurring is on the rise but this is because of a complex set of interactions between the physical Earth system, human interference with the natural world and increasing vulnerability of human communities
3) earthquake is a sudden, rapid shaking of the Earth caused by the release of energy stored in rocks.
Q.1: Why do The monsoon winds blow in summer from south west to North West?
Ans: High pressure conditions in the Indian mainland attracts the South East Trade winds in the southern Hemisphere(winds always blow from high pressure areas to low pressure areas). Thus, the Summer Monsoon winds blow from South Western direction in the Northern Hemisphere.
Q.2: Why do All over the world the frequency of disasters is increasing?
Ans: Scientists believe the increase in hydro-meteorological disasters is due to a combination of natural and made-made factors. Global warming is increasing the temperatures of the Earth's oceans and atmosphere, leading to more intense storms of all types, including hurricanes.
Q.3: Why do Most of the islands of Asia are rocked by the earthquakes and Volcanic activity?
Ans: The southeast Asian country suffers so much because of its position on a large grid of tectonic plates, on which all the Earth's countries and seas sit. Indonesia is at the meeting point of three major continental plates - the Pacific, the Eurasian and the Indo-Australian plates - and the much smaller Philippine plate.
