Never judge a book by its cover

The old man looked tired and helpless. He seemed to be grumpy and didn't want anyone's  help. He was carrying a big sack on his back. His legs had gone wobbly, his face bore a fatigued look and he was out of breath.

In this merciless world there are a few good Samaritans too. Many came forward to help him but he declined all help and shouted at them to leave. He kept walking. Sweat drenched him, thirst parched his throat yet he walked along. Finally his destination came to an end when he entered the Government Hospital. He entered the General ward and laid down his heavy sack.

The guards tried to stop him but he listened to none. He caught hold of the Medical Officer and pleaded him to come with him.He was a totally changed man then. No longer grumpy or cantankerous but docile and gentle.

He took the doctor to the sack and opened it. In it lay coiled a small kid. The child was not responding to any call or touch. He was immediately taken to the Intensive Cure Unit.

The old man then narrated to the doctors that the child was his grandson, the only kith and kin in his life. The old man had lost his entire family in an earthquake.

The child was just a few months old then. He nursed the child and brought him up. He was almost seven years then. The child had recently complained of a severe stomach ache. Before he could be taken to the doctor the boy had fainted. Wasting no time the old man carried him in his sack as there was no other means of carrying him.

Not a minute did he waste. He trudged along for one fifty kilometres as that was the distance to the nearest hospital. He did not stop at any point but kept walking. That is why he appeared  tired and helpless. He didn't want to waste time so when anyone approached him he turned grumpy and didn't want anyone's  help.

The doctors came out of the Operation Theatre and hugged the old man. He had saved his grandson's life by bringing him to the hospital on time. The boy's appendix had apparently ruptured causing him the immense pain. However he was then out of danger.

The old grumpy man no longer remained so, instead he became the sweetest jolly old fellow. A relieved man with all tiredness vanished. Thus all concluded that one should never judge a book by its cover.
