Newton- Raphson method is applicable to  the solution of a) Both algebraic and transcendental equations.

  • Named after Sir Isaac Newton and Joseph Raphson, Newton- Raphson method is used to determine approximations to the zeroes (or roots) of a function.
  • This method can be used on both algebraic and transcendental equations.
  • Unlike other methods, the Newton- Raphson method requires a single appropriate initial point as a starting assumption of the root of the function.
  • The formula is:

         x_1 = x_o - \frac{f (x_o)}{f' (x_o)}

        Here, f(xo) is a function at xo

        f'(xo) is the first derivative of the function f(xo)
