the sum of roots of a cubic equation is given by

-b/a

here b= 3, a= 6

(though in question, the first term is 6x^2, I am assuming it to be 6x^3 as a quadratic equation cannot have three roots)

now

a + b + 1 + y

= a + b + y + 1

= sum of roots + 1

= [-b/a] + 1

= (-3/6) + 1

= -1/2 + 1

= 1/2
