Explanation:

( initial velocity ) u = 120 m/s

( final velocity ) v = 0 m/s

( acceleration due to gravity ) = 9.8 m/s ( approx 10 m/s)

using,

1st equation of motion v = u + at

from above, t = ( v-u )/a

t =( 0-120 )/-10....... ( -10 is because acceleration is in opposite direction )

t = 12 second

now usin 2nd equation of motion

s = ut+ 1/2×at^2

s = 120×12+1/2×(-10)×144

s = 1440-720

s = 720 m

hence maximum height covered is 720 m
