Answer:

When the British fought the Battle of Plassey on 23rd June 1756, they defeated the Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah and installed a puppet Nawab in his place that was Mir Jafar. After that the British constantly demanded money from Nawab. When he could pay no more he was deposed and Mir Qasim was installed in his place. After two years he tried to free himself from their rule and for that he took some steps against the British which enraged them. For that the British declared war and defeated Mir Qasim. He fled to Awadh and formed an ally with the Nawab of Awadh, Shuja-ud-Daulah, and the Mughal emperor, Shah Alarm II, and fought the Battle of Buxar on 22nd October 1764. It was a decisive battle and it resulted in their defeat. This was because of the following reasons:

1) It exposed the weakness of the native armies.

2) The Nawab of Awadh and the Mughal emperor along with Bengal, then became totally dependent on the English East India Company.

3)Total financial control over the rich provinces gave the British enormous resources for the next round of expansion.

So, in this way the British became successful in establishing rule in India after the battle of Plassey and Buxar.
