an element x has atomic number 17 ie., it's configuration is 2,8,7
so it belongs to group 7A and period 3

Hey !!!

Atomic number = 17

So electronic configuration = 2,8,7


Now since group no depends on the no of electrons in outermost shell so
As there are 7 electrons in outermost shell so either we can say group 7A or 17

and periods depend on the no of shells so in this case we have 3 shells so group 3
