Ques:Identify the substances oxidised and the substances reduced.

a)MnO₂ + 4 HCl
→ Mn Cl₂ + 2 H₂O+Cl₂​

Answer:

in MnO 2 oxidation state of Mn is =+4           [x+2(-2)=0       so, x=+4]]

but in MnCl2 Mn is in oxidation no. +2

so , reduction in oxidation no. ocuurs so it gets reduced itself. but reduction occurs by taking 2 electrons released by HCl. so, MnO 2 IS OXIDISNG AGENT

IN HCl oxidation no. of Cl is  -1.....but after reaction it forms Cl2 ..in which its oxidation no. is 0...so ox. no. increases so here oxidation occurs .,...HCl gets oxidised
