Given:

Price of the Watch = Rs. 2000

Loss = 20%

Gain = 20%

To find:

CP of the watch

Solution:

Let CP of first watch = x

Thus, CP of second watch = (2000 - x)

SP of 1st = x × 120/100 = 6x/5

SP of second = 2000 - x × 80/100

= 4/5 ( 2000 - x )

Since, he neither gains nor loses, thus

SP = CP

6x/5 + 4/5 ( 2000 - x ) = 2000

6x/5 - 4x/5 = 2000 - 1600

2x/5 = 400

2x = 400 x 5

2x = 2000

x = 1000

CP of 1st watch = 1000

Cp of second watch = 2000 - 1000

= 1000

Answer: The CP of first watch is 1000 and second watch is also 1000
