1.) Reverse Osmosis is the non-spontaneous movement of water molecules(solvent) from its region of lower concentration to the region of higher concentration through semi - permeable membrane,when external pressure is applied on the region of lower concentration.

2.) Difference-

  • In osmosis water molecules move from higher to lower concentration through semi-permeable membrane while in reverse osmosis water molecules move from lower to higher concentration.

  • Osmosis is spontaneous movement while reverse osmosis is non-spontaneous movement.

  • In osmosis, external pressure is not applied on the region of lower concentration while in reverse osmosis , external pressure is applied on the region of lower concentration.
