Many people think that boric acid is a protic acid.
but this is NOT TRUE BECAUSE IT CAN NOT RELEASE H+ IN ITS SOLUTION IN WATER.

When we make a aquous solution of boric acid it is observed that
it accepts OH- from water to form B(OH)4- and thus we get excess of H+ in water.

As you know, protic acid give proton in water , it is not a protic acid because it doesn't ionize in H2O to give a proton . it acts as Lewis acid by accepting electrons from a hydroxyl ion of water and in turn releases H+ ions.
e.g., B(OH)3 + HOH ----> [B(OH)4]- + H+
