Hi

Here is your answer,

Paper chromatography is a type of partition chromatography. It is based on the principle of partition, it is based upon continuous differential partitioning of distribution of the various components of the mixture between the stationary and the mobile phases.

In it, the solution of the mixture to be separated is applied as a small spot at the base of chromatography paper ( about 2 cm above one end of the paper strip). It is suspended in a suitable solvent. This solvent acts as mobile phases. Solvent rises up the paper. After some time the spots of the colored components are visible at different heights from the position of initial spot on the chromatogram. The coloured components of a mixture are identified by their R, value.

chromatography is the most versatile method for the separation , purification and testing the purity of organic compounds .
There are many types of chromatography .
here we have to discuss about paper chromatography or partition chromatography .

PRINCIPLE OF PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY : paper chromatography works on the principle of partition .e.g., it is based upon continuous differential partitioning or distribution of the various components of the mixture between the stationary and the mobile phase.

the solution of the mixture to be separated is applied as a small spot at the base of chromatography paper (about 2cm above one end of the paper strip ) . it is suspended in a suitable solvent . This solvent acts as a mobile phase. solvent rise up the paper and after some time the spots of the sperated colored compounds are visible at different heights from the position of initial spot on the chromatogram. the colored compounds of a mixture are identified by their Rf value ,

where Rf means retardation factor = distance travelled by the compound , a /distance travelled by the solvent , b

in case of colored compound, the spot is observed by the using of an appropriate spray reagent.
